Our Aims and Objectives

• We provide short term accommodation for young mothers who want the opportunity to look after their baby in a safe and stable environment in spite of their difficult circumstances.

• While Service Users are living at Cantercare, we aim to equip them with life skills, encourage them in the areas of parenting and facilitate the rebuilding of relationships. We also aim to enable them to access opportunities within education or returning to work.

• Our overall aim is to help the young women achieve all that they need to in order to move on from supported housing into accommodation of their own. That they will be living independently with their baby and being able to make choices and decisions successfully and realising their hopes and aspirations.

• Young women who come to Cantercare must be willing to engage in the support offered as well as engage with other agencies or professionals that may be called upon to help meet any additional needs identified through Cantercare’s key-working and support plans.

To achieve our aims some of Cantercare’s objectives are:

• Providing good quality furnished accommodation which offers good levels of comfort, homeliness and privacy.

• Providing support to all Service Users by allocating to them a key-worker who will meet 1:1 on a fortnightly basis, be available to discuss day to day problems and requirements as they arise and prioritise any actions that need to be completed as part of their support plan, including benefit applications and correspondence.

• Signposting Service Users to other professionals and agencies in order to meet needs identified within support meetings, to enable them to meet her potential as a young person and as a mother and receive the support she requires.

• Providing workshops or learning opportunities for Service Users to further their skills, to gain knowledge or information in relation to parenting, finance, budgeting and education.

• Assisting the young mothers in moving on to long term accommodation by helping with preparation and planning for their move.

• Throughout all of these aims being achieved, Cantercare staff are enthusiastic in working together to get alongside Service Users and build professional relationships. Helping them by aiding in decision making, promoting positive parenting and healthy relationships, raising self-esteem and empowering them to recognise their aspirations and the steps they need to take in reaching them.
